Julia was the fifth of eleven children born to Daniel (III) and Polly (Gasaway) Boatright. She married Gregory Jackson Empson in 1850 and theyhad eight children: William Jasper, Mary Ellen, McDonald David, Drusilla, Harmon, Jerusia Ann, Isaac Franklin and Margaret Belle.

Mrs. Julia Empson, wife of Sheriff G. J. Empson, died suddenly at their home in Brushy Precinct last Friday evening of paralysis of the heart. The burial took place at the Brushy Church Cemetery on Sunday.
