Travis Edward Atwell, age 89, of Yukon, West Virginia, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014. Born October 31, 1924, on Atwell Mountain, Atwell, West Virginia. He was the son of Clarence and Chloe (Short) Atwell. He was a resident of McDowell County all of his life.
Preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Tilda (Short) Atwell; three brothers, Hugh, Lafe and Jay Atwell; five sisters, Violet, Audrey, Irene, Ethel and Mickey; one great grandson, Michael; one great granddaughter, Gabrielle.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Esther (Adair) Atwell of Yukon; four sons, Larry Atwell and wife Jackie of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Bill Atwell and wife Debbie of Vienna, West Virginia, Danny Atwell and wife Bonnie of Bristol, Virginia, Brock Atwell and wife Dawn of Richlands, VA; two daughters, Darlene Jones and husband Mike of Anderson, Indiana, Rosetta Lawson of Yukon; two brothers, Henry Atwell and Ray Atwell; three sisters, Fannie Short, Anne Adair and Kay Sale; four grandsons, Michael, Jacob, Roman and Travis; seven granddaughters, Elizabeth, Amber, Jessica, Lisa, Lindsey, Kellyn and Mary Beth.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 1 P.M. at the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in War, West Virginia with Reverend Spencer Oxford, officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, West Virginia.
