Thomas J. BARNES, ninety-three years old, one of Lewis' {Vigo County, Indiana} two remaining veterans of the Civil War, died at his home Wednesday, September 9.
He was a member of COMPANY F {SIXTH REGIMENT INDIANA CAVALRY}. He was also a lifelong member of the Methodist church and the Masonic order of Lewis.
He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Rachel STOUT, Mrs. Drucilla STEPHENS and Mrs. Emma BOSTON, all of Lewis; three sons, Omer, of Lewis, William of Jasonville, and John of Pimento; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Lewis Methodist Church. The burial which was a soldiers ceremony, was in the Lebanon Cemetery at Midland {Greene County, Indiana}.
