Syrian philosopher, sociologist and Arab nationalist.

He published various books during his lifetime, the most notable being The Battle for One Destiny (1958) and The Struggle Against Distorting the Movement of Arab Revolution (1975).

Aflaq is considered one of the foremost leaders in the Ba'athism philosophy, despite being a devote Christian.

After being kicked out of Syria following the 1968 revolution by Hafez al-Assad, he became friends with Saddam Hussein and moved to Paris where he died there on June 23rd, 1989.

Michel was buried in Iraq, unfortunately the tomb was damaged during the Iraq War in 2003.
