Joseph was a decorated war veteran serving as a Sergeant first-class with the Military Police during the Korean conflict. He attended Clarion, Edinboro and while attending Penn State he was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa (Administrative Fraternity). He was employed by the Erie School District as a teacher and Principal until he retired in 1994. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Cathedral.
He was preceded in death by sisters Constance and Marjorie.
Survivors include his wife, Marie A. Kinzig, sons Mark of Paris, France, Paul (Nicole) of Maryland, John (Amy) of Erie, and Joseph III /Jay (Megan) of Cleveland, and a daughter Susan Hansen (Paul) of Cleveland; grandchildren; a brother Richard (Grace) of California; a sister Nancy Gillespie (David) of Erie. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by an aunt and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He will be laid to rest next to his parents at the Calvary Cemetery in Oil City.
