Paula Kay Jones Karmire, 72, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at her residence.

She was born July 10, 1941 to Paul W.Jones and Mary Kay Rule Jones in Shelby County. She married William Larry Karmire on Oct. 28, 1960, and he survives in Shelbyville.

Other survivors include daughters, Megan(Karmire)Fisher of Brownsburg and Kim Karmire-Toll of Shelbyville; sister, Jenny McKinney and husband Don of Shelbyville ; brother, Chuck Jones and wife, Sheila, of Waldron; sister-in-law, Carol O'Donnell; five grandchildren, Bryce, Brendon, Zach, Alex and Quinn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Karmire was a lifetime resident of the area. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1959, and attended Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis. She had been a genealogist at the Shelby County Public Library since 2005.

She was the office manager at Air Products and Chemicals of Shelbyville until retiring in 2003. She had also worked at WTHR-13 and Nineteenth Star.

Mrs. Karmire was a member of First Christian Church in Shelbyville. She was a lifelong quilter. She was the author of"Black History; Shelby County, Indiana", a book on local history.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road. A private family service was at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at the funeral home with the Rev. Tony Lambert officiating.

Burial will be at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

In lieu of flowers, it was Mrs. Karmire's wish that the family and friends donate to the charity of their choice.
