John Baker Waters was born in Winfield, New York, in 1820. In 1843 he was united in marriage with Miss Betsy Andrews. Three years later he came west, arriving in Milwaukee from which place he drove to Johnstown, being a resident here for fifty years. The last five years of his life he spent in Whitewater at which place his death occurred, on Monday morning at five o'clock. He was an honest, upright man and had hosts of friends. Decedent leaves four children to mourn the loss of a kind, patient father, A. G. Waters, of Beloit, Mrs. Herman Johns of Evansville, Mrs. Horace Peabody of Janesville and E. D. Waters of Whitewater. The funeral services were held at the church here Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Perry of Whitewater. The pallbearers were Volney Wood, Robert Morton, Benjamin Clark, Joseph Taylor, John Haight and Marv. Keith. The singing, furnished by a ladies' trio from Whitewater, was exceptionally good. The remains were laid at rest in the village cemetery beside those of his wife who preceded him to the other world ten years ago.
