Helen M. "Babe" Unger, age 93 of Fort Smith, Arkansas and former longtime resident of Elwood, died Friday, January 3, 2013 at Peach Tree Palliative Care in Fort Smith after a brief illness. She was born January 24, 1920 in Elwood, the daughter of Garth Omer and Dena (Lehr) Day. She worked for many years as a Reflexologist and had formerly worked at Delco Remy in Anderson. Helen married John Carroll "JC" Unger, and he passed away in 1988. She was formerly a member of the Lutheran Church. Helen and JC were both active in the Shriner's club. She loved traveling, and lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed spending time with her family and connecting with friends from Elwood through attending reunions.

Helen's surviving family includes a son, Kim Dean (wife Bonna) Unger of Fort Smith, AR; brother, Garth John Day of Lansing, MI; half-sister, Beverly (husband Larry) McElfresh of Valparaiso; 5 grandchildren, Marcey (husband Chad) Smith, Misty (husband Phillip) Stewart, Matthew (wife Sally) Tincher, Julie (husband Jason) Bailey, and Cora (husband Chris) Seratt; 15 great-grandchildren; and special niece, Kathleen Lilley of Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Carroll "Junior" Unger, who died May 3, 1988; and a beloved grandson, Jason Carroll.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
