Billy Ray Scruggs, age 66, of Auburn, Georgia, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family after a gallant fight to pancreatic and liver cancer for eight months. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Annie Sue Scruggs; son, Tommy Ray Scruggs (Trisha) of Bethlehem; two daughters, Angela Scruggs Hudgins (Ryan) and Rhonda Scruggs Franklin (Robin) all of Auburn; six grandchildren, Thomas Nicholas "Nick" Scruggs, Gabrielle "Gabby" Scruggs, Ashley Nicole Franklin, Jacob Kyle Franklin, Tyler Caine Franklin, and Walker John Hudgins; one great grandson, Kamden Caine Ladet; two sisters, Elise Beaver of Toccoa and Louise Knight of Braselton; three brothers, Tommy Scruggs (Helen) of Toccoa, Ronald Scruggs of Auburn and Nicky Scruggs of Gainesville; brothers-in-law, David Green (Shirley) of Auburn and Billy Green of Winder; sister-in-law, Regina Gazaway of Winder; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ola Dell Williams Scruggs and Luther Eugene Scruggs.
Billy was born on July 1, 1947 in Duluth, Georgia. He was a graduate of Central Gwinnett High School and was an expert diesel mechanic and worked for Rollins Truck Leasing in Norcross for 23 years. He loved to hunt, fish, go camping, and repair all models of cars. His greatest joy in life was his family and he loved going on vacations and spending the holidays with them. Billy will be greatly missed by his adoring family and many friends.
The Service Honoring the Life of Billy Ray Scruggs will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 4:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Rev. Mac Palmer, officiating and Jacob Kyle Franklin, Billy's grandson, giving the Eulogy. Interment will follow at East Shadowlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 o'clock to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and after 9:00 A.M. on Saturday.
