Margaret 'Jane' Engel, 93, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Beloved daughter of the late Walter and Florence Engel (nee Osten); cousin of the late Charles Elroy Stitt, Jr.; dear friend of Marie Welnicki, Margaret Icke and Brother John Rothermel.

She was born in Cleveland where she was raised and graduated from John Adams High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. Jane taught Physical Education for one year at West Tech High School, Cleveland. She wanted to join Women Marines but instead worked the duration of World War II as an inspector at Aircraft Fitting Co. She was also employed at the Cleveland office of R.L. Polk & Co. Direct Mail and retired after 34 years from Harvest Publishing Co. (a subsidiary of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Inc.).

Jane loved to travel (ask anyone on her postcard mailing list). She enjoyed sports, either as a participant or spectator and was most active for many years in bowling leagues. Jane was an avid fan thru the years of high school, college, company and church teams and the Cleveland Indians and Browns. Forty days before her 75th birthday, on a AAA Night at Jacobs Field she threw the Ceremonial First Pitch at the Indians/Oakland A's game. Jane was proud of her #1 fan/mascot status with Huff-N-Puffers since the origin of that senior men's softball league. She was an active member and enthusiastic booster of OASIS, the national Older Adult Service and Information System.

Funeral Service will be at the funeral home on Monday, January 13, at 11:00am. Interment Acacia Park Cemetery.
