Maurice J. "Moss" Granfield Jr., 61, passed away Thursday in St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He was born March 9, 1952 to the late Maurice and Dorothy "Rita" (Flanagan) Granfield, Sr. Moss graduated from Cathedral High School in 1970 and received his MBA from UMass in accounting and also graduated from Western New England School of Law in 1987. He worked for over 20 years at UMass Medical School and later at Holyoke Medical Center as a corporate compliance officer. Moss was active in local politics and was a member of the Springfield Elks Lodge #61, Holyoke Parade Committee, National Assn. of Internal Auditors, Sacred Heart Parish Committee and served as a Police Commissioner under former Mayor Mary Hurley. He leaves a son; Maurice "Mossey" J. Granfield, III and his wife Jen of Quincy, MA, and daughter Dr. Annie Granfield of Providence, RI. Funeral Services will be held TUESDAY 9:15 from the SAMPSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ACRES FUNERAL HOME, 21 Tinkham Rd., followed by a 11 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., Spfld. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, 1601 State St., Spfld. Calling Hours will be held MONDAY from 4 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice .
