Mrs. Marjorie A. Evans, 92, passed peacefully on Jan. 9, 2014 at the Southington Care Center with family at her side.

Marjorie was born on Sept. 1, 1921 in Waterbury to the late Henry and Mabel (Simpson) Hawkins. She worked for many years as an accountant for the EMS and for nonprofit organizations, as well as a bookkeeper.

Marjorie, who resided in Wolcott most of her life, enjoyed cake decorating, baking and gardening. She was an avid reader, loved to socialize with her childhood friends and family and was a lifelong animal lover.

Marjorie worshiped at St. Pius X Church, was active in the ladies auxiliary as well as being a former member of the Red Hats. She was one of the first women in United States Marine Corps during World War II.

She was cherished and survived by her children, Ronald Evans and his wife Diane of Delray Beach, Fla., Marjorie Savage of South Carolina, Janet Fellows and her husband Rick of Wolcott, Fern Nadolny of Waterbury, Elaine Gagne and her husband Dennis of Wolcott, Carol Swanson of Wolcott; a sister Patricia Tremblay and her husband Lou, of Avon; grandchildren, Elena, Avery, Ashley and Ronald of Florida, William, Robert, Jennifer, Amanda, Gregory, Jeffrey of Connecticut and Erica of Florida; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Harold Hawkins.
