B. "Pat" Christian, 95, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, in Weatherford.

Service: In accordance with Pat's wishes, his body was donated to UNT Health Science Center for medical research. He requested no public memorial service.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Itasca Presbyterian Children's Homes, Box 140888, Austin, Texas 78714-9981; or a charity of choice.

He was born to Boyd J. And Elizabeth Bourland Christian in Itasca on July 10, 1910. After graduating from Itasca High School in 1932, he attended Austin College in Sherman, where he earned B.A. and M.A. degrees. It was there he met Helen Elliott Orr, whom he married in 1939.

He was associated with Universal Mills in Fort Worth for 10 years before becoming its branch manager in San Antonio. He moved to Weatherford in 1950 to own Red Chain Feed Store, later becoming associated with Weatherford ISD as a liaison between the home and school to encourage young people to stay in school.

Having had polio at about 1 year of age, he grew up using crutches, never letting them hinder his activities, which included playing tennis on one crutch in high school and college and caring for cows, hogs and thousands of chickens in Weatherford.

His keen sense of humor, his genuine interest in people of all ages and his generous sharing of books and resources along with his many letters brought him pleasure in serving others. Because he was a great admirer of the longtime speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Sam Rayburn, Pat donated to the Sam Rayburn Library at Bonham more than 1,000 books, many with autographs or inscriptions by authors. He often shared the products of his cooking skills as he delivered cookies, breads and candy to shut-in friends. Pat served as an officer and Sunday school teacher at Presbyterian churches in Fort Worth, San Antonio and Weatherford, being a member of Grace-First Presbyterian Church 55 years.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Irma Patricia Christian, in 1952; his parents; one sister; and two brothers.
