Major M. Arena Foster, 90, of the Fred and Harriet Taylor Health Center in Bath, NY, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the Taylor Health Center. Born in Chillicothe, OH, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Wiona (Bail) McDonald. She married Wesley D. Foster on October 9, 1942 in Chillicothe. They were married 71 years before he predeceased her on December 6, 2013. As an officer in the Salvation Army, Major Foster served with her husband in nine appointments over thirty-eight years, including an appointment in Elmira. She retired in 1985 from the Tonawanda, NY Corps. She will be remembered for her compassionate and loving nature, her humility, and her selfless service to others. Surviving are two daughters, Wiona Breighner of Mt. Vernon, OH, Naomi (David) Kelly of Needham, MA; and one son, David (Martha) Foster of Corning, NY. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jeremy Foster, Doug Breighner, Lindsey (Mike Deem) Breighner, David Eric Kelly, Julia Kelly, Connie Foster and Peter Foster; as well as two great-grandchildren, Darynne and Taylor. Friends will be received at the Salvation Army Citadel at 32 E. Denison Parkway on Friday, January 17 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Bath National Cemetery in Bath, NY with her husband, Wesley. Memorials in her name may be made to the Salvation Army Corps at 214 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston, PA 18643, where her grandson Lt. David Eric Kelly serves as the Corps Officer.
