Dusty L. Taber

HARLOWTON, MT, ----- It is with great sadness that the family of Dusty Lindell Taber announce her passing on Jan. 12, 2014.

Dusty was born June 20, 1996, in Billings, to James and Brandy Taber, of Shawmut.

Dusty was an exceptional young lady who was full of life and love. She treasured her relationships. Dusty made friends easily and would quickly form a strong alliance and both old and new friends alike knew how special their connection was. Her beloved family cherished her benevolence and always welcomed her warm embrace. Dusty had a way of brightening every room she entered.

She had the most infectious laugh. When she started laughing you just knew it was going to grow bigger and louder until she had to grab hold of whomever was closest just to keep from falling over. Her laugh was so contagious that you couldn't help but to laugh with her even if sometimes you didn't even know what you were laughing about. She was beautiful both inside and out, she was the kind of person you could see from afar and you just knew there was something special about her.

She loved her friends and family more than anything else in the world, but it was obvious she had a special place in her heart for her four brothers. Her love for them was unconditional and she had a tenderheartedness in the way she cared for them. She mothered them like they were her own children.

Dusty formed strong bonds with so many people and she has left a lasting impression.

Dusty had many accomplishments during her short life. She was both an athlete and a scholar. Dusty had a passion for basketball that was easy to see when she was on the court. Her dynamic personality was obvious and it attributed to her being an unstoppable force on defense.

As a freshman, Dusty's never-quit attitude contributed to the Lady Engineers second-place ranking at the Class C state girl's basketball tournament in 2011. Dusty's hard work, dedication, and talent earned her a starting position each year of her four-year career.

Her junior season was cut short due to a knee injury she sustained early in the season, which gave her an extra-special enthusiasm entering into her senior year. Unfortunately, this season ended early, but the games she played most certainly left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to watch her lead her team. Dusty's spirit for the game inspired her teammates to play their hardest.

Dusty also had an outstanding track career. She competed in the 400 meter relay, 1600 meter relay, 200 meter run, 400 meter run, but her favorite was the long jump. She competed at the Class C state meets her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. She shined brightly her junior year and qualified for state in all five events. Dusty was amazing at everything she put her mind to and sports were proof of that.

Aside from her sports career, Dusty was an outstanding scholar. She held a 3.9 GPA for her entire high school career and achieved a 4.0 for the 2013 fall semester of her senior year.

Dusty pursued this goal without waver and was thrilled when she learned that she had finally achieved this accomplishment. To Dusty, being a scholar was more than just earning good grades, but also being involved within the community.

Dusty was a natural born leader, which was easily obvious to everyone. She was a founding member of the Teen Leadership Camp, president of the FCCLA, a member of the National Honor Society, vice president of her class, and a member of many other clubs and groups at Harlowton High School.

Despite her passing, she will be honored with the designation of being the class of 2014 salutatorian.

Dusty aspired to become a pediatrician and she planned on attending MSU Bozeman in the fall to study pre-med.

In preparation for this goal, Dusty volunteered at St. Vincent Healthcare for the past two summers.

In addition, she felt extremely honored to receive an invitation to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Boston. She spent ten days learning about the field of medicine and formed lasting relationships with her peers.

Dusty's purpose in life was to be a mentor, loving friend and an example to others. Dusty will be greatly missed by friends and family and her kindred spirit was far-reaching and will forever be remembered and will remain though she is gone.

Dusty is survived by her parents, James Taber, of Shawmut, and Brandy Taber and stepfather Tony Orr, of Harlowton; brother Dalton Taber, of Shawmut; brothers Kobe, Jett and Ty Orr, of Harlowton; grandparents Eugene and Linda Taber, of Shawmut, David and Gwen Brown, of Harlowton, Gordon and Susan Suda, of Livingston; great-grandfather James Frost, of Harlowton; uncles Johnny (Joan) and cousins Kendra, Cole and Keelan Taber, of Shawmut, Shawn (Ana Laura) and cousins Vondra and Breck Suda, of El Paso, Texas; aunts Desiree (John) and cousins Joseph, Eliana, Mateah Shukle, of Newport, Wash., Melinda (Chris) and cousins Tyler, Blake, Madelyn and Alivia Hutton, of Park City and April Taber, of Havre; plus special close third cousins Malori and Mariah Dietrich, of Shawmut. Dusty has a large extended family that she leaves behind.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19.

A private burial will follow at the Taber Ranch.

She will be laid to rest above the hay fields of her family's ranch and will have the best view of the sun rising and setting.

The family of Dusty requests that memorial donations be made to the scholarship fund, the Forever 42 Dusty Taber Memorial Scholarship, which was created by her parents following her passing into heaven.

Donations can be made to the fund at Citizens Bank and Trust, PO Box 247, Harlowton, MT 59036.
