Alsace Lorraine Hamman, age 89, of Grand Marsh, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at her home.

She was born on April 23, 1924 in Grand Marsh, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Modjeska (Mink) Morgan. Alsace or Lorraine as she was called throughout her life was named after the town Alsace Lorraine located in France which her father had encountered while serving in WWI.

As a child, Lorraine lived in rural Grand Marsh. She attended the Grand Marsh Grade School through the 8th grade and upon graduation began her working life. Lorraine worked at various jobs early in her life but eventually began working in restaurants which lead to a long career in cooking. She cooked at restaurants in Wisconsin Dells as well as in the Sportsman Bar in Grand Marsh and Patrick's Lake Resort outside of Grand Marsh. In 1972 she began cooking at the Grand Marsh Grade School, a job that she had once had in the 1950's. She was in this position until her retirement.

Lorraine married Leonard H. Hamman on April 23, 1959. Sons Leonard W. (Len) and Tracy were born in 1960 and 1961. The birth of Tracy prompted a move from Wisconsin Dells to Grand Marsh where the family was raised and Lorraine lived until her passing.

Husband Leonard passed away in November of 1971 leaving Lorraine to raise their 2 sons into adulthood. She worked hard to give her son's opportunities to participate in various activities such as Cub Scouts, 4-H, athletics, hunting, etc. as they were growing up in addition to providing guidance and a close-knit home life.

Lorraine was well-known for her cooking and baking abilities. She enjoyed being in the kitchen and in addition to traditional dishes, she was excellent at preparing wild game. Her hobbies included crocheting, embroidering, and gardening.

Throughout her life Lorraine was a member of various organizations including the United Church of Christ, Shadow Sisters, 4-H, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Grand Marsh Development. She was willing to lend a helping hand when it was needed in the community.

Lorraine was a loving, caring Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Aunt. She loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephew, nieces, and great nephews and nieces. She had many relatives and friends and enjoyed their company. Lorraine lived a long life and will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to thank all of Lorraine's relatives and friends for being an important part of her life.
