Dan Callahan, 75, of Tallahassee, Florida. passed away on January 11, 2014. Dan Callahan, loving husband of Beryl Callahan for 56 years, was an accomplished man and a veteran naval officer. He is survived by his loving wife Beryl, one son Danny and his wife Robyn, of Tallahassee, Florida. He is also survived by one grandson, Danny Callahan Jr. currently serving in the US Navy. He also is survived by three grandchildren from his son's marriage, Cullen Simpson, Kayla Simpson, Shanna Simpson Smith, her husband Chase Smith, with two great grandchildren Hayden and Jaxson Smith all living in the Tallahassee area.
Dan worked his way up from an enlisted man to an officer in the US Navy while serving on submarines, destroyers and land security facilities. Next, he worked as an electronic database auditor for a large insurance company in Kansas for 20 years. Finally, he served as an Inspector General for the State of Florida, Office of Insurance Regulation. Dan loved meeting new people, reading, joking, learning, college and professional football, fishing with his son, spending time with his loving wife of 56 years and being with his family.
He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Bevis Funeral Home Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
