He was the son James Grant and Flossie Viola Middaugh Swoveland. He married Doris Marie Reed on March 19, 1960.

He loved going to the Eagles and Moose Lodges, and was always ready to help anyone needing it.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Swoveland of Warsaw; a son, Jerry Dale Swoveland of Florida; two daughters, Patricia Jean (Greg) Dille, and Marty Lynn (Darren) Shroyer of Warsaw; grandchildren, Brandy Swoveland of Coshocton, Heather Swoveland, Kevin Shroyer, Levi Dille, Caleb Dille of Warsaw, Amanda Smith of Newark, Jeremy Savage of Cameron, N.C., and Deric and Eric Shroyer in the United States Navy in Washington state, and great-granddaughters, Jaycie and Kamryn Savage of Cameron, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Flossie Swoveland, a son, Kevin Swoveland, a brother, Dellas Swoveland, two sisters, Ruby Rowe and Olive Snure, and two nephews, Kenneth and Tim.
