Joseph R. Gagné 1931 - 2014 Palmer

Joseph R. Gagné, 82, of Palmer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 14th at Wingate at Wilbraham with his loving family at his side.

Born in Highgate, Vermont to the late Antoine and Alberta (LaRoche) Gagne, he was a longtime area resident.

Joe was employed at The Mills in Indian Orchard for many years and for ten years worked as a Graphic Artist. Joe had a passion for drawing and art. He was a lifelong Red Sox Fan and was never known to have missed a game on T.V. He enjoyed candlepin bowling and was a die-hard Yahtzee Fan, playing into all hours of the night. He enjoyed being a drummer in numerous country bands over the years, especially with his three brothers in "The Gagne Brothers Band". Most recently, Joe was a communicant of St. Thomas Church in Palmer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Madeleine E. (Dubois) Gagne of Palmer; his seven children, Virginia Berger of Agawam, Norman Gagne (Ann) of Ludlow, Ronald J. Gagne (Bonnie A.) of Chicopee, Lynn Duquette (Conrad) of Holyoke, Jeannette Motta (Richard) of Bondsville, MA, Joseph H. Gagne (Brenda) of Monson and Theresa Renaud (Gerald) of Belchertown, MA; two brothers, Edward Gagne of Three Rivers and Andre Gagne (Patricia) of Springfield; six sisters, Laurianne Gagne, Rita Canuel (Joseph), Tony Pinsonnault, Irene Ferron, Jeanette Pinsonnault, Lea Florio (William) and Doris Wapner (Roger); four step children; sixteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, many step grandchildren, one step great grandchild; four god-children; several special nieces and nephews and many dear friends over the years.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Wayne "Bucko" Berger, his brother, David Gagne; his sister, Theresa Mainville and by his brothers-in-law, Edward, Lionel, Raymond and Gaeten.

Family and friends are invited to meet for visitation on Monday January 20th from 3-7 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Joe's Funeral Ceremony will be held on Tuesday January 21st starting at 8:45 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Michael's Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield.
