Quentin Balkowitsch, 69, passed away on January 15, 2014, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck.

Quentin "Butch" Balkowitsch was born November 13, 1944, the second of four children of Robert and Magdeline Balkowitsch. He attended schools at Flasher and Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1963. Quentin enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 28, 1963. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary China National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960). His terminal of Reserve was August 27, 1969.

On July 13, 1968, he married Sharon Fischer Balkowitsch. They lived in North Dakota and California where Quentin was a journeyman meat cutter, postman, and supervisor at Shiley Heart Valve Company. He also owned Trails End Bar, Buena Park, CA, and the Reef Bar, Costa Mesa, CA. After returning to North Dakota, Quentin worked at Super Valu as a truck driver and worked for his brother, Robert, at the Comfort Inn, Bismarck and Williston.

Quentin is survived by his children, Shane, Chad, and Loren Balkowitsch; his mother, Magdeline Balkowitsch; brother, Robert Balkowitsch, Jr.; sisters, Charlotte Huber and Roberta Lee Daniels; seven grandchildren, and special friend, Lester Jones.

Quentin was preceded in death by his father, Robert Balkowitsch, Sr., and his daughter-in-law, Melissa Balkowitsch.
