Leona Laura Danhauer, the daughter of Hans Peter and Sarah Ann (Stackerman) Larson, was born in rural Marquette, Neb., on Sept. 13, 1911, and passed away in Aurora, Neb., on Jan. 17, 2014, at the age of 102.

At the age of 6, Leona moved with her parents from Hampton to rural North Platte, where she attended country school and North Platte High School. In 1931, she moved back to Hamilton County, where most of her relatives were.

On June 26, 1933, she was united in marriage to Delbert Danhauer at McCook. They farmed in the Marquette area. In 1976, they retired from farming and moved into Aurora. Delbert passed away on April 12, 1988, and on May 18, 2001, Leona sold her home in Aurora and moved to East Park Villa.

Leona was a member of the Marquette United Methodist Church for many years until it closed and she then joined the Aurora United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Dorcas Circle, known for her quilting of rugs and quilts for the church to sell. Leona enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing cards, Bingo and traveling. She loved being with her family for birthdays and holidays. Leona was a volunteer at the Plainsman Museum for 12 years. She also worked at the Hospital Thrift Shop and was a Hospital Pink Lady for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parent; husband; son, Kenneth Danhauer; son-in-law, Gerald Hansen; sister, Edna Nelson; and brother, Raymond Larson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Don (Arline) Danhauer of Marquette and Sharon Hansen of Aurora; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Danhauer of Grand Island; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; and a nephew, La Moyne (Paula) Danhauer, who made his home with Delbert and Leona as he grew to manhood.
