Born in Harford County, MD, on December 29, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and the late Elsie (Curry) Blakeley.
Mrs. Slate, a homemaker, was a member of NEVFD Ladies Auxiliary, Blythedale Seventh Day Adventist Church and she was known for her cake decorating, especially wedding cakes.
She is survived by three daughters: Carol J. Stewart of North East, MD, Bonnie M. Katz of Blacksburg, VA, Elaine G. Hintze of Elkton, MD and son: Allen E. Slate of Belgium; and a brother: Wilbur Blakeley of Colora, MD. Mabel is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Rufus P. Slate; son: Thomas C. Slate; sisters: Ruth Shires, Bertha Spence; and brothers:, Louis Blakeley, Earl Blakeley, and Walter Blakeley.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 21st, 2014 at 11:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where there will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday evening.
Interment will follow services in Brookview Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD.
