Mary L. Sloat Whitney
Age 76, of Evansville, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, March 8, 2010, at Deaconess Hospital Main Campus after a short and brave battle with cancer.
Mary had worked for 31 years at the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation where she was Cafeteria Manager for several years, finally retiring as a Custodian in 1995. She was a member of the Owls and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Mary is survived by her husband of 40 years, Harold R. Whitney; son, Bruce Haleman and wife Ruth, of Newburgh, IN; daughters, Peggy Blankenship and husband Wally, of Florida; and Karen Wall, of South Carolina; grandchildren, Brandi Haleman, of Newburgh, IN; Magen Haleman; Bruce Haleman, II, and companion Amber, all of Evansville, Mallory Haleman, of Newburgh; Don Johnson, II, and companion Corissa; Carl Frazee; Christopher Frazee; Sarah Wall; Greg Wall; and Jonathon Wall; great grandchild, Brice Johnson; brothers, Earl Sloat, Jr., and wife Florence, of Evansville; and Jack Sloat and wife Barbara, of Evansville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was a wonderful mother, wife, and grandmother who will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Sloat and Mildred Bryant; son, Donald Johnson; sister, Edna Sloat; brother, William Sloat; sister-in-law, Joy Sloat; and great grandson, Kamrynn Johnson.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 N. First Avenue, Evansville, IN 47710; and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 100 E. Michigan St., Evansville, IN 47711.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Reverend Walter W. Ullman officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 100 E. Michigan St., Evansville, IN 47711.
