Anthony was appointed Adelaide township librarian on Nov. 19, 1853 at the township Council meeting. The clerk was ordered to get a "desk for books to be of walnut
or cherry". Since there was not a township public library, one might assume that the Adelaide Public Library was in Anthony Preston's shoemaker shop.
In 1855 he was appointed Assessor for the township. At the Feb. 4, 1857 Council meeting he was appointed Township Clerk, a position he held for 21 years until his death.
About 1838 he married Margaret DeGraw (1817-1880) d/o Samuel DeGraw and Elizabeth Utley of Caradoc township.
They raised nine children in Adelaide township. (See spouse's memorial for
details.]
[ - Mount Pleasant Cemetery records indicate that Anthony was moved to his present burial location in the Gibson family plot from another location but the records do not indicate the original location.)
