NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - Zenas Ray (Z. Ray) Alderman has completed his tour of duty on earth on Nov. 29, 2010.

He was born in Burlington on Sept. 12, 1924 to Zenas (Zeb) and Edna Fisher Alderman.

He was 86 years old. A graduate of BHS class of 1942.

He served in the US Navy in World War II in the Pacific area. Z. Ray returned to Burlington and married Shirley (Moody) Hoose on May 24, 1947.

He then joined the Army Air Core.

They were the parents of three children, Z. Ray and Shirley were blessed with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

After serving on active duty with Armed Forces in 1955, Z. Ray returned to Burlington and joined the Burlington Police Dept.

He later managed Abraham's Camera Dept.

After Abraham's, he joined IBM. He later joined Simmonds in Vergennes on an IBM project.

Shirley was employed by the Chittenden Bank, later retiring after 23 years.

Z. Ray and Shirley also owned and operated Ray's Sunoco service station on Williston Road.

During this time, Z. Ray served over 40 years with the Boy Scouts and was District Commissioner when he retired and was awarded the Silver Beaver award.

Z. Ray pursued many interests and hobbies and is an Ordained Minister, spending many years in Bible study and research to find out what God actually inspired man to write.

Other interests he was involved in was he was a professional photographer, artist, stamp collector, gasoline and diesel mechanic, and enjoyed wood-working. Z. Ray retired from military service after serving in various Armed Forces.

His last tour of duty was with the Vermont National Guard, retiring as SFC in 1984. Z. Ray and Shirley then moved to North Fort Myers.

Z. Ray and Shirley will be interred in the Military Cemetery in Colchester.
