Mary C. Hamilton was the daughter of Dolphin Davis Hamilton 1878-1968 and Rachel Elizabeth Mauldin Hamilton 1885-1959. She married George W. Dumont in 1947 in Highlands County, Florida.On July 1, 2012 Mary Christie Hamilton Dumont, our beloved "Butchie," 92, died at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Abbeville, Georgia on January 17, 1920, Butchie moved to West Palm Beach at age 2 where she grew up the second youngest of seven Hamilton children.
While working as a secretary at Morrison Field in West Palm Beach, Butchie met the love of her life, the handsome Major George Dumont. George and Mary married in 1947 and settled in Sebring where George and his partners established the Eight Air Depot at Hendricks Field. Butchie and George raised their six children in Sebring in a home filled with laughter and love. Butchie and her family shared a lifetime of aviation which included numerous memorable trips in family airplanes to destinations around the US and Canada.
Butchie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, "Big Daddy," son Johnny and grandson Beau Rapp. She is survived by her children: Kathy Rapp (Gary), Bobby, Jimmy (Cindy), Patty (Dennis Thieme), daughter-in-law Darian Davis Dumont, Suzy (Jim Phillips) and fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Butchie's parish family is Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Avon Park.
To a wide circle of family and friends Butchie leaves a legacy of love, wisdom, wit, intelligence, style, and a positive attitude as well as her most precious gift, her faith.
With gratitude for their exemplary care for our Butchie and support for our family, please send memorial donations to Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring. Viewing from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday, July 5 with a celebration of life and remembrance from 7:00 to 8:00 at Morris Funeral Chapel, Sebring. Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church, 595 E. Main Street, Avon Park at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 6.
