ENID, OK — Memorial service for Jim Cokeley, 84, of Enid, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, with Mr. Jackie Bese and Monte Hendricks officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Mr. Cokeley donated his body to OU Medical Research.
Jim was born Nov. 27, 1929, in Ames, Okla., the son of Doc and Versa Munkres Cokeley.
He was a graduate of Ames High School in 1949.
Jim was united in marriage to Jean Walton on Nov. 29, 1952, in Blackwell, Okla.
He was first employed by Waren Petroleum as a welder's helper, then on to Hudson Engineers in Premont, Texas, then moved to Genoa, Texas, also working as a welder for Hudson.
The Cokeleys then moved to Enid, where he was employed by Adams and Brentlinger Welders. He then worked for Serv-air as a welder at Vance Air Force Base and then retired in 1993, employed by Farmland Nitrogen Plant.
He was a member of Pioneer Lion's Club, Enid Garden Club, Emmaus and Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He enjoyed working in his yard, most importantly, his family outings, and at 70 years of age, he hiked down and up the Grand Canyon.
He will be remembered as a great welde, for his creative metal artwork, and he will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; two daughters, Teresa Bese and husband Terry of Plano, Texas, and Tammy Grantz and husband Fred of Enid, Okla.; two sons, Tony Cokeley and wife Rhonda and Terrell Cokeley and wife Jana, all of Enid; seven grandchildren, Jackie Bese, Julie Giacobbe, James Cokeley, Jordan Dillon, Jimmy Mull, Jake Cokeley and Jared Cokeley; great-grandson, Keelan Harris; twin sister, Annie German of Bridgeport, Texas; sister, Carolyn Stricker of Frisco, Texas; and a brother, Lee Cokeley of Seminole, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, cancer division, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
