"Death of an Aged Lady.
Mrs. Massie Allen died at the home of her son, Mr. B. T. Allen, in the Hog Island neighborhood, Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The deceased lady would have been eighty years of age had she lived till the 19th of next month. She had been for many years a very devout, consecrated, consistent member of the Methodist church. Those who knew her best loved her most. Her last moments were calm and serene, and she died as one who gently falls asleep. She left testimony of sweet peace from Above. A large family of children and other relatives survive her who have the sympathy of many friends. Her remains were interred here Wednesday at noon, Rev. W. A. McCann, of Villula, conducting the service."

"IN MEMORIAM
Departed this life on the 25th day of May, 1898, Mrs. Massa Ann Allen , in her eightieth year. The deceased was a daughter of the late William E. and Flora Cooksey. Our aunt was possessed of many noble traits of character, and was an exemplary Christian woman, always bearing her trials and troubles with Christian fortitude. She was very much devoted to her children, of whom there are living five daughters and three sons to mourn her loss: Mr. John Allen, of Texas, Messrs. Mack and Thompson Allen, of this county, Mrs. Jas. And Mrs. Alex. Carden, Mrs. Ebey-Corbit, Mrs. Rebecca Kite and Miss Susie Allen, all of this county and all of whom visited her and administered to her during her last sickness except Mr. John Allen. Our aunt was a devout Christian woman, having been a member of the Methodist church some sixty or seventy years. She was married twice, her first husband having been Hiram Strickland, of Georgia, who died a short time after their marriage. She afterwards married William R. Allen, who has been dead several years. She was conscious up to the last, and gave instructions as to how she wished to be put away. It is sad, nevertheless true, we all must die, but oh, how much better to die a Christian – at peace with God and all mankind. A good woman gone to reap her reward where there is no more trouble and sorrow, sickness and death, but where all is joy and peace and happiness in a world that shall never end. [signed] W. A. L. Tucker."

Russell Register, 6-3-1898; Seale, Alabama, page 3, published weekly by Tucker & Chadwick

W. A. L. Tucker was her nephew. She was the sister of Jane Cooksey Tucker: #81750768.
