SOUTH BEND - Cleo B. Cross, 86, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014, in her residence. Cleo was born on August 19, 1927, in South Bend, to Leo and Tressie (Hofmeister) True. She retired from Ball Band and the South Bend Community School Corporation. On January 4, 1947, in South Bend, she married Robert J. Cross Sr. He died on October 24, 1997. Cleo was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lavon Terry and Tressie Jurgonski. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra (Robert) Chabera of North Liberty and Linda Cross of South Bend; three sons, Robert Cross Jr., Richard (Mary Sue) Cross and Ronald (Deb) Cross, all of South Bend; 9 grandchildren, Tamara Emery, Stacey Lawton, Michelle Sinkovic, Justin Vera, Robert Cross III, Ryan Cross, Scott Cross, Matt Gitchell and Lindsey Gitchell; 17 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Lois Taylor of New Jersey, May Mendenhall of South Bend, Sherrilyn Stone of Mishawaka, Patricia Overton of Berrien Center, MI, and Laverne Johnson of Alabama; and a brother, Forrest "Bud" True of Tennessee; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be celebrated at 1:00 pm today, January 24, 2014, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help defray funeral expenses.
