Charles T. Mauro HUDDLESTON
Retired U.S. Navy Capt. Charles "Chuck" Thomas Mauro, 58, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at his home after a sudden illness. Born Aug. 16, 1947, in West Palm Beach, Fla., he was the son of the late Giles Peter and Frances Stephens Mauro. Chuck was a retired captain from the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country for more than 30 years as an intelligence officer. His tours of duty included Vietnam and Desert Storm. Most recently, he served as a docent with the National D-Day Memorial Foundation. Chuck was a faithful Christian man and a member of Staunton Baptist Church in Huddleston. Chuck loved life and had a quick wit. He enjoyed many activities, such as golf, boating, hiking, fishing and Jeep off-roading with family. He leaves an honorable legacy. Chuck is survived by his wife Kathleen "Kathy" Mauro; two daughters, Kelly Nelson and her husband Darin of Lynchburg, Va., and Kristen "Kristy" Henschel and her husband Brian of Forest, Va.; four grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Zachary and Emily Henschel; and one brother, Charles "Chip" Suther Jr. and his wife Kim of Danvers, Mass.; his stepfather, Charles "Bill" Suther Sr. of West Palm Beach, Fla.; an uncle, Chester "Chet" Stephens and his wife Bette Lou of Tampa, Fla.; father-in-law, William "Bill" Monk and his wife Elsie of Bear Lake, Mich., and brother-in-law Larry Monk and his wife Linda of Danville, Calif. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Staunton Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery and military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16-Lynchburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
