CAROLYN WEBER CHENEY (Age 95)

On January 21, 2014, our loving and independent mother passed away peacefully after succumbing to complications from congestive heart failure. Born on Christmas day in 1918, she was predeceased by her parents Gottfried and Kathryn Garner Weber, sister Kathryn, and brother Ben of Highland Park, TX. She earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in French from SMU where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Widow of CDR Ralph Eugene Cheney, she moved 16 times supporting his 28-year career as a Navy pilot, serving as president of several Officers Wives Clubs, and holding the family together during Ralph's deployments at sea. Carolyn enjoyed traveling and maintained a close relationship with her Swiss family. She was an avid and expert bridge player, volunteered at her church, read several books per week, followed sports passionately, and had a well-known love of chocolate. Carolyn was devoted to her husband, quietly and selflessly caring for him during a 17-year illness. She is survived by daughter Carol Cheney "CiCi" Williamson (John Kelly), son Robert Eugene Cheney (Lois Bianchi), and five grandchildren Robert Creighton Williamson (Dr. Fay Durkin), Richard Carroll Williamson (Dr. Kristy Maddux), Jon Christopher Williamson (Emily Wood), Christopher Ryan Cheney (Alicia Frank-Meltzer), and Amanda Clair Cheney. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Jon, Ellie, Maxwell, and Creighton Williamson. She loved her family dearly, and we will miss her very much. Visitation on Friday, January 31, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA. Service on Saturday, February 1, 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1205 Dolley Madison Blvd., McLean, VA. Burial at a later date, Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church, www.umtrinity.org.
