Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Alton "Red" and Gertrude Mitchum Ethridge. He was a member of Pinewood Baptist Church. Mr. Ethridge was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was formerly employed at Bendix and Martin Color-Fi.
Survivors include his wife; children, Tracy Ethridge, Vicky Ethridge and Amanda Baker; a special son, Tim Ethridge; grandchildren, Sam Ethridge, Ben Ethridge, Rebecca Ethridge, Michael C. "Chad" Avin Jr. and Nicky Singleton; a great-grandchild, Bobby Singleton; two sisters, Ett Lightbody and Gail Connelly; and two brothers, Larry Ethridge and Carroll Ethridge.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, James Melton; and brothers, Talmas Ethridge, Frank Ethridge and Cecil Ethridge.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Pinewood Baptist Church. The Rev. Bennie Barwick officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael C. "Chad" Avin Jr., Glen Avins, Johnny Bryant, David Eargle Jr., Gerald Gainey and Nick Carter.
Honorary pallbearer was Joe Summerall.
The family received friends from Monday at Pinewood Baptist Church.
