Born March 1, 1933 in Galion and was raised by her grandparents Thomas and Elizabeth Ann Ellis, and was graduated from Iberia High School in 1951.
On November 21, 1964 she married Clarence R. "Buck" Buchanan, who preceded her in death on September 13, 1990.
Barbara had worked as a home health care aid, but will be best remembered for owning and operating Buchanan Sanitation in Galion for 27 years.
An avid reader, she enjoyed playing cards and any activity that centered around her church family: Tabernacle of Praise.
She is survived by her daughters Kathy (Cindy Smith) Butler of Zanesville, Vicky (Allen) Kiess of Roanoke, Texas and Jewel (Richard)Tanner of Wellsville, Kansas; step children, Jerry (Yvonne) Buchanan of Galion and Ron (Geneva) Buchanan of Galion; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sons Steve Burkey and Terry Burkey; a step-daughter Carolyn Faye Riddle and a granddaughter Kimberly Butler.
Her family will receive friends Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel, 218 S. Market Street, Galion where her funeral service will be held Friday, January 31 at 10:30 a.m. with her pastor Bishop Marvin Van Buren officiating. Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.
Contributions in her memory to either the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association may be made at the funeral home.
