Jolene McFarland Ackman, age 78, of Bourbonnais, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends Wednesday, July 18, 2012.

Jolene was born March 15, 1934, in Newell, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Mildred (nee Papik) Witter, who preceded her in death. During the course of her childhood, the family made numerous moves, including to Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Carbondale, and finally to Bradley, where she graduated as valedictorian of her Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School Class of 1951.

She was married in 1953 to Jim McFarland, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Scott (Sue) McFarland, of Safety Harbor, Florida and Mike (Jan) McFarland, of Lisle; and one daughter, Kim Kimberlin, of Bourbonnais. Other survivors include grandchildren Kelly (Paul) McKendry, and Katherine and Randy McFarland, all of Florida, Michael and Jacob Kimberlin, of Bradley, and Ryan (Sarah) Kimberlin, of St. Anne; as well as three great-grandchildren.

She worked for various companies in the Kankakee and Chicago areas, as well as owned a business in Clearwater, Fla., Sea Link International Inc. She was involved with the boards for Trotters Chase Condominium Association as well as Our Savior Lutheran Church, and volunteered in numerous organizations over the years. She enjoyed golfing, cooking, knitting and traveling, and cherished those times spent with family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bradley, until the 11 a.m. funeral service.
