Cornelius Scanlan was the son of Michael Connor Scanlan and his wife, Margaret(née McGuinness), of Creeveroe, Killaloe, Co. Clare. He was the brother of Revs. James & John Scanlan who served as priests in Chicago while Cornelius was a policman in the city.
On the 31 January, 1911, Cornelius suffered a heart attack and died at his residence, 4611 Butler St., Chicago. His funeral service took place on 3 February in St. Gabriel's Church, with burial afterwards in Calvary Cemetery, Evanston.
