The funeral for Cecil F. Evers, 82, who died early Thursday in a local nursing home after a long illness, will be at 2 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home. Dr. William B. Oden, minister of First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Evers was born August 20, 1902, in Kimball, South Dakota, to William and Mary Evers. He grew up on the family farm and attended school at Kimball. On November 27, 1924, he and Ethel Peyton were married in Kennebec, South Dakota. The couple were married 60 years.
Evers worked at numerous businesses throughout South Dakota serving as the assistant postmaster at Presho. He also farmed and was a maintenance man for the state highway department. He retired in 1964 and moved to Enid.
Evans was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Schriner. He was also a member of the Eli Richie Temple of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel; two sons, Clifford L. Evers, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Robert L. Evers, Sturgis, South Dakota; one daughter, Mrs. James (Lorraine) Kvasnicka, Enid; nine grandchildren; and 15 great – grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
