Marie C. Roddy, age 94, of Fresno passed away on Sunday January 26, 2014, she was born on May 2, 1919, to James and Teresa Callahan. She graduated from North High School in Worcester, Ma. She received her B.S. Degree in both chemistry and mathematics from Our Lady Of The Elms College in Chicopee, Ma. She married Edward F. Roddy on June 29, 1946.
She was a highly active volunteer member of La Tienda Guild Thrift Store for 34 years, benefiting the Childrens Hospital of Central California. Before that she volunteered at Community Hospital and several outlying facilities ( Pinedale, Highway City, etc.) She always put her childrens needs at the forefront and made sure that all seven of them graduated from college. She declined a captaincy in the U.S. Marine Corps to raise her children at full attention. Missing Church or C.C.D. was not permitted in her household. Everything Marie did in life was always surrounded with being a mother and sharing herself, especially with children. During both difficult and good times she was always there to encourage and provide moral support for everyone she knew. Marie spent decades sharing her military husband for the defense of this country, while providing for seven children and working to better her community. Besides the hard work around her household and community, she took time to drive 100 miles six nights a month for ten years to baby sit two of her grandchildren without skipping a beat. She gave the same love and care to that household as her own, while her husband saw to the yard (mowing, raking, etc.). Marie had an undieing devotion to family, friends and her community She raised her children on high morals, faith, love and dedication to work and community with a strong emphasis on education. Her beautiful smile and mind were just part of her infectious cheerful spirit. She will be deeply missed and greatly remembered. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at 10:00 AAA. With Visitation starting at 9:00 AAA. At the Yost & Webb Funeral Home, 1002 'T' Street at taller Avenue.
