František Vláčil was a prolific Film-Maker of Documentaries and Instructional films for the Czech Army unit, before embarking in feature lenght Films.

After his Documentary "Sklenìná Oblaka" won an award in the 1957 Venice Festival, He embarked in the next project, a feature film, "Holubice" about a boy who tends to a wounded bird.

"Marketa Lazarová" was a turning point in his career, as a film maker, then came, "Údolí Včel" and "Adelheid" the most important films he is remembered for.

Tomáš Hejtmánek interviewed František, and compiled footage with anecdotes he shared with František, with the purpose to be broadcast on a documentary.

Sadly when this was originally intended to be released, František passed away.

Instead of abandoning the project, this was realised with the Actor Jirí Kodet as a stand in for František in the documentary "Sentiment"

As of now his film "Marketa Lazarová" stands as the best film ever made in the entire output of Czech Cinema.
