Enlisted, 1903, in Squadron A, New York City. He served in Troop 4. March 3 - 6, 1905, he marched in the inauguration of President T. Roosevelt, Washington, DC. December 31 - January 2, Squadron A escorted Governor Charles E, Hughes at the inaugural ceremonies, Albany, NY. Discharged from Troop 4, Squadron A in 1908.

His cousin Hugh Minturn also served in Squadron A, 1905 - 06 and his nephew Roger Tuckerman served in the 105th Machine Gun Battalion ( Squadron A ), in World War 1.

World War 1, he saw service with the American Red Cross in Europe and commissioned a 1st Lieutenant, August 1918. In September 1918 he was ordered to the Italian front and attached to the 51st Division, Italian Army. He served with this Division throughout the Piave Offensive.

He was awarded the La Croce al Merito di Guerra ( Italian Cross of Military Valor ) , by the Italian Government.
