He was a 1983 graduate of North Gwinnett High School, Suwanee, and a 1987 graduate of North Georgia College and State University. He worked for Gwinnett County Emergency Services as a fireman and paramedic for 11 years. He was a member of Sugar Hill United Methodist Church.
