Andrew "Andy" Jackson McPheeters, is the second child born to Azariah McPheeters and Susannah (Mathis-Matthews) McPheeters. He was born 16 May 1844 near Greencastle, Putnam Co., Indiana on his father's farm. When "Andy" was about three years old, he traveled with his parents and extended McPheeters family to Dallas Co.,Missouri, in the Ozarks of southwestern Missouri. The McPheeters are listed as early pioneers to this area. "Andy" was 18 years old when he enlisted in the Union Civil War, Company A of the 14th Calvalry S M. His duties took him out as far as Kansas Territory and Colorado Territory. He served as a private and a bugler until 1866. He married the love of his life, Serena Ann McCall on 24 Dec 1868. The couple are the proud parents of seven sons. "Andy" was a excellent carpenter and built his home in Polk Co. He was honored by the newspaper, Buffalo Reflex for being the oldest living Union Civil War veteran in Dallas Co., Missouri when he was 92 years old. He lived to age 98 years! Today, his decendants take pride in Grandpa "Andy's" positive endurance in life! His old bugle remains in the care of his family members.
