obituary from Pella Chronicle, Thursday, October 10, 1912. Arnold Manurits Roelofsen was born August 19, 1835, in Deventer, Netherlands, where he grew to manhood. He came to America and Pella in the spring of 1868 and engaged in business as a baker, which business he carried on for forty years, retiring about four years ago. He was married August 3, 1874, to Miss Lutske De Vries. To them two daughters were born, Elizabeth Alyda who died in infancy and Lucy Alyda. he died at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 1912, being aged 77 years, 1 month and 15 days. The cause of his death was hemorrage of the stomach, which occurred May 10th, of the present year and was followed by months of suffering. For several weeks preceding his death his mind was not clear and he had to be cared for as a child. The funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 o'clock at the First Reformed Church, of which the deceased was a member, in life. The services were conducted by the pastor Rev S. Vander Werf, and the body was laid away in the family vault in Oakwood cemetery. Besides the wife and daughter, the deceased is survived by one brother, Carl P. Roelofsen whose home is in Chicago and another brother, Conrad Roelofsen in Deventer, Holland.
