William Wesley Brooks, 82, of Forest, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, at Lynchburg General Hospital following a short illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Bower Brooks. Born in Lynchburg, on January 5, 1932, he was a son of the late Charles W. Brooks and Katherine Brooks Childress and stepfather, Osby Childress. Mr. Brooks served two years in the Army in Germany. He worked at Morton Manufacturing Company and then for the ABC Board where he retired. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church and a former member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two step brothers, Jimmie Childress and Osby Childress. He is survived by a son Barry Wayne Brooks and his wife Susan of Lynchburg, two grandchildren, Amanda Shea Brooks and Dustin Wayne Brooks and a step sister, Elnore Stubbs of Smith Mountain Lake. The Rev. Will Montgomery and theRev. Megan Saucier Will hold a funeral service 12 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2014, at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. today, Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Dr. Navneet Arora, the MICU staff and the palliative Care Team.
