Died as a result of wounds received during action against Japanese enemy forces at Roi-Namur, Marshall Islands. He was a member of the 4th Division, USMC that launched a successful twin assault on the main islands of Kwajalein in the south and Roi-Namur in the north, 31 January-3 February 1944.
