GALESBURG -- Evelyn C. Davis, 82, of 810 Oak St. died at 6 a.m.

Friday, May 29, 1998, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Born June 1, 1915, in Chambersburg to Russel H. and Elma Vivian Howell Browning, she married Cleo E. Davis in 1937 in Palmyra, Mo. He died in March 1981. One son, Ronnie; two daughters, Vicki Davis and Dorothy Sturple; one grandson; and one sister also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Grover of Monmouth, Diane Durst of Burlington, Iowa, and Elma Davis of Galesburg; one brother, Howell Browning of Chambersburg; a friend, Wesley Patterson, with whom she made her home; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at East Linwood Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Cato will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville is in charge of arrangements.
