Caity was living in a group home for trouble youth. She was interested in art, animals and sports. Caity was so unhappy at the home she ran away 17 times in the 3 months she lived there; 6 times in the 9 days prior to her death.

According to an official of the agency overseeing that facility, Caity at the time of her death was about to be moved to another home, one designed to provide "a more secure and structured" environment for her.

She is dearly missed by her mother and father, her brother, maternal grandparents, uncle, cousin, 2 great-uncles, and 2 great-aunts.

The group "Caitlin Lee Suicide Prevention" was created after her death and raises funds for mental health treatment and suicide prevention.
