Essie Thelma Shull, 76, of Second Avenue, SE, Hickory, died May 28 at Catawba Valley Medical Center following several years of declining health. Born June 23, 1925 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lewis and Anna Penola Smith Reese. She was retired from Neuville Industries. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Woodrow Willie Shuff; daughters Helen Seagle and Margie Reese; and son Everett James Shull. She is survived by daughters Sue Stroupe and Joyce Greene of Morganton, Louise Seagle of Valdese and Judy Shull of Hickory; sons Willie and Forest Shull of Drexel; sisters Inez Cook of Hickory and Clara Beard of Brookford; 27 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
The Rev. Kenneth Bright conducted graveside services May 31 at Burke Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Tim Reese, Wayne Reese, Todd Shull, Johnny Shull, Clint Shull, Ben Greene, Wesley Sain and Allen Seagle; and grandchildren were honorary pallbearers. Hickory Funeral Home served the family.
