(Special Star-Bulletin Correspondence)
MAKAWELI, Kauai, Feb. 22—A large number of friends, including Masons all over the island, attended the funeral yesterday at Koloa of Thomas Russell Neal of Makaweli, who died at the Makaweli hospital at 6:30 o'clock the same morning from stomach trouble. He had been ill since last October and had spent the last two weeks in the hospital.

Neal was one of the most widely known and liked kamaainas of Kauai, having been head carpenter of the Hawaiian Sugar Co. for the last 24 years. He came from the McBryde Sugar Co. to Makaweli and was incidentally, one of the first men to be employed by B. D. Baldwin, present manage of the plantation.

He was 59 years old, having been born at Koloa June 4, 1868 [sic], the son of John Daniel Neal of Ohio and Harriet Pahukoa of Koloa. He was not married. He is survived by a number of sisters, all well known in the territory, and two brothers, Dave and Dan, in San Francisco. His sisters are Mrs. E. E. Conant, formerly of Molokai and now at Makaweli; Mrs. R. H. Schimmelfennig of Koloa; Mrs. P. A. Romaine, Honolulu, who left Koloa after a long stay last year, and Mrs. James Campsie of Pahala, Hawaii.
