"Estella Shafer, the daughter of Henry Bates and Louisa Sawyer and a life long resident of St. Joseph County, died at the home of her daughter in Three Rivers, Michigan on May 22nd. She was 58 at the time of her death, which followed an illness of nearly two years.

She was survived by her son, Henry Shafer of Three Rivers; five daughters, Mrs. Claud Hartman, Mrs. James Standerline of Three Rivers, Mrs. W. P. Seymour of New York City, Mrs. C. A. Worthington of White Pigeon, Mrs. James Garretson of Chicago; one brother, Edmund Bates of Jones; two sisters, Miss Ada Bates of Constantine and Mrs. Edna Bosak of Manton as well as fourteen grandchildren.

Rev. Andrew Telford officiated at the services held in the Haring Chapel at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment was at Centreville."
