Christine M. Burke, 62, of Naples, FL and Clifton Park, NY, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2014 at her home in Naples.
Chris was born and raised in Waterford, NY, and attended Holy Names Academy. She graduated from Russell Sage College and earned a Master's Degree in Education from the College of St. Rose. Chris spent more than 25 years working for New York State at the Workers Compensation Board, Civil Service Department and State Insurance Fund. She served as President of the Albany Chapter of the International Public Management Association and was the recipient of the IPMA HR Specialist of the Year award for her contributions to training and development. In addition, Chris worked tirelessly and enthusiastically in the support of her husband's career and her daughters', granddaughters', and friends' pursuits.
Chris's life was a testament to her positive attitude and her desire for herself and her loved ones to settle at nothing less than the best. Her legacy of strength and love will continue through her grandchildren and future generations.
As she did most things in life, Chris faced her battle with cancer with great strength and grace. Her days were spent enjoying walks on the beach, yoga, and bicycling. She especially loved traveling with her husband and the countless hours she played 'pretend' games with her granddaughters. She was very grateful for all the days of her life, and lived them to their fullest.
Chris was a passionate supporter of the Evelyn Lauder Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and participated in cancer studies in an effort to find a cure. She was a Patron of the Arts at SPAC, and a supporter of various other local charities. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering with the Naples Historical Society at the Palm Cottage.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home at 1550 Rt. 9 in Clifton Park, NY from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, February 11th.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park. Burial will be in the Albany Rural Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu flowers, memorial gifts to be made in her honor to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, www.BCRFCURE.ORG or to her fundraising page www.fundraiseforbcrf.org/ cburke .
Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
